The engine supports the MIDI, MP3, OGG and WAV file format for music and sound effects. The default battle system is a frontview system reminiscent of RPG Maker 2000 with static front-facing monsters and invisible player characters, however with RGSS2 different battle systems are possible to implement. The help file contains clear instructions on how to import these and other resources. Unlike earlier RPG Makers, the game engine is limited to a single group of tilesets (arranged in layers A through E). RPG Maker VX runs in its own 544x416 resolution. This adds great flexibility and possibility for enhancement, as evidenced by the plethora of custom scripts already available for the engine. RPG Maker VX has a rich interface similar to RPG Maker XP with a few more built-in features as well as an upgraded Ruby Game Scripting System (RGSS2). Like RPG Maker XP, it was officially translated into English, and like its predecessors, the engine is a tile-based point and click engine tailored towards creating traditional RPGs. RPG Maker VX is the latest release in the RPG Maker series.
